Barcode billing and barcode label printing for your shop
Scan a product and it is in the cart. Print barcode and QR labels for products that have none. Both are built into RathTech Billing POS.
Scan to bill
Typing a product name for every item is the slowest part of billing. With a barcode scanner connected to the PC, the cashier scans each item and it drops into the cart with its price and GST already applied. Press F3 to jump to the scan or search box at any time. Products without a barcode, or loose items, can still be found by typing a few letters of the name.
The app works with the common USB barcode scanners that behave like a keyboard, which means no special driver is usually needed. As with any hardware, test your own scanner during the free trial before you buy more of them.
Print your own labels
Many local shops sell items that arrive without a barcode, or repack goods into smaller quantities. RathTech Billing POS prints barcode and QR labels for your products on a label roll or on an A4 sheet, ready to stick on the item and scan at the counter. The label comes from the product record, so the barcode in the label and the barcode in your catalogue are always the same.
- Barcode or QR code, per product.
- Label roll or A4 sheet output.
- Uses the barcode stored on the product, so scanning at the counter finds the right item and price.
Why barcodes reduce mistakes, not just time
A scanned barcode points at one exact product record. That means the right price, the right GST percentage and the right stock line are used every time, and stock is reduced from the correct item. Typing a name makes it easy to pick the wrong size or variety. For shops with hundreds of similar items, the accuracy gain is as valuable as the speed.
Setting up a barcode workflow
Read how stock stays accurate in inventory management, and how receipts print in receipt printing.
- Add products with their existing manufacturer barcodes, typed or imported from Excel.
- For items without a barcode, create your own code, print labels and attach them.
- Connect your scanner and scan a few items at the billing screen to confirm they are found.
- Train staff on F3 for scan or search and F4 to complete and print.
Tips for clean scanning
- Keep labels flat and uncreased, and place them in the same spot on similar items so cashiers learn where to scan.
- Use a label size that fits the item, as small as the scanner can still read reliably.
- Avoid putting labels over shiny or curved areas where the scanner may struggle.
- If an item will not scan, search by name and fix the barcode on the product record afterwards.
